A bright and refreshing non-alcoholic summer drink combining fresh strawberries, basil, lemon juice, and sparkling water. Perfect for parties and casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (150 grams) fresh strawberries, hulled and halved
  • 8 to 10 fresh basil leaves
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) fresh lemon juice
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons (1530 ml) simple syrup
  • 1 cup (240 ml) sparkling water, chilled
  • Ice cubes, as needed
  • Lemon slices and basil sprigs for garnish

Instructions

  1. Rinse and hull about 1 cup (150 grams) of fresh strawberries. Cut them in halves or quarters depending on size.
  2. In a sturdy mixing glass, add the strawberries and 8 to 10 fresh basil leaves. Gently muddle using a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon, pressing just enough to crush the berries and bruise the basil to release their oils without bitterness.
  3. Pour in 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of freshly squeezed lemon juice and 1 to 2 tablespoons (15-30 ml) of simple syrup, depending on your preferred sweetness. Stir gently to combine.
  4. Fill the glass with ice cubes, then top with 1 cup (240 ml) of chilled sparkling water. Stir gently to blend without losing fizz.
  5. Garnish with a fresh basil sprig and a thin lemon slice on the rim. Serve immediately.

Notes

Use fresh, ripe strawberries for best flavor. Muddle basil gently to avoid bitterness. Chill sparkling water and glasses beforehand to keep the drink cold without diluting. Adjust sweetness with simple syrup and tartness with lemon juice to taste. Can substitute basil with fresh mint or rosemary for different herbal notes. For sugar-free option, replace simple syrup with stevia or monk fruit sweetener.
