A quick and easy patriotic dessert featuring vibrant red, white, and blue gelatin layers with a creamy middle, perfect for Fourth of July and other celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (3 oz / 85 g) strawberry or cherry flavored gelatin mix
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) cold water
  • 1 package (3 oz / 85 g) unflavored gelatin powder
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) cold water
  • 1 cup (240 ml) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup (240 ml) heavy whipping cream, whipped to soft peaks
  • 1 package (3 oz / 85 g) blueberry or berry blue flavored gelatin mix
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) cold water
  • Whipped cream (optional topping)
  • Fresh blueberries and sliced strawberries for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Make the Red Layer: Dissolve strawberry gelatin powder in 1 cup boiling water. Stir until dissolved. Add 1/2 cup cold water and mix. Pour about 1/3 cup into each serving cup. Refrigerate 30-40 minutes until set but slightly tacky.
  2. Prepare the White Layer: Sprinkle unflavored gelatin over 1/2 cup cold water and let bloom for 5 minutes. Whip heavy cream to soft peaks. Warm bloomed gelatin until melted but not hot. Stir in sweetened condensed milk until smooth. Fold in whipped cream gently.
  3. Add the White Layer: Pour about 1/3 cup of the white mixture over the red layer in each cup. Refrigerate 45 minutes until set but slightly tacky.
  4. Make the Blue Layer: Dissolve blueberry gelatin powder in 1 cup boiling water. Stir until dissolved. Add 1/2 cup cold water and mix. Pour about 1/3 cup over the white layer carefully. Refrigerate at least 2 hours until fully set.
  5. Final Touches: Just before serving, top each cup with whipped cream and garnish with fresh blueberries and sliced strawberries.

Notes

Patience is key to achieve distinct layers; chill each layer until set but slightly tacky before adding the next. Pour new layers gently over the back of a spoon to avoid mixing colors. Bloom unflavored gelatin for the white layer to ensure proper texture. Can substitute agar-agar for a vegetarian/vegan option but expect different texture and chill times.
