This easy spiced cinnamon pear butter crockpot recipe is a cozy, homemade fall treat that requires minimal hands-on time and delivers a smooth, aromatic spread perfect for breakfasts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 pounds fresh pears (Bartlett or Bosc), peeled, cored, and chopped
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Peel, core, and chop about 4 pounds of fresh pears into roughly 1-inch pieces.
  2. Place the chopped pears into your slow cooker. Add 1 cup granulated sugar, 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg, 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves, 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice, and 1/2 cup water. Stir gently to combine.
  3. Cover and cook on the LOW setting for 6-8 hours, avoiding opening the lid too often.
  4. After about 6 hours, test the mixture. If still too watery, cook uncovered for another hour to thicken.
  5. Use an immersion blender directly in the crockpot to puree the pear mixture until smooth and spreadable. For chunkier texture, pulse in a food processor.
  6. Stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract once pureed.
  7. Let the pear butter cool in the slow cooker for 15-20 minutes before transferring to clean glass jars or containers.

Notes

Use ripe but firm pears to avoid mushy texture. Adjust sugar to taste or substitute with honey or maple syrup for different sweetness. Keep the lid closed during cooking to maintain temperature. Blend longer for smoother texture. Sterilize jars before storing for longer freshness. Can be frozen in small portions for up to 3 months.
