Quick and fresh mini Caprese skewers featuring cherry tomatoes, fresh mozzarella balls, basil, and a tangy balsamic glaze. Perfect for parties and light snacking.

Ingredients

  • Fresh mozzarella balls (bocconcini or ciliegine), drained
  • Cherry or grape tomatoes
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Balsamic glaze (homemade or store-bought)
  • Extra virgin olive oil (optional)
  • Salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Prepare the balsamic glaze (if making homemade): Pour 1 cup balsamic vinegar into a small saucepan. Add 1-2 tablespoons honey or brown sugar. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat, then reduce to low and simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened to a syrupy consistency. Remove from heat and let cool.
  2. Rinse and dry the cherry tomatoes using paper towels or a clean kitchen towel.
  3. Drain the mozzarella balls in a colander and gently pat dry if desired.
  4. Rinse and gently pat dry the basil leaves. Remove large stems and select small, tender leaves.
  5. Assemble the skewers by threading one cherry tomato, one mozzarella ball, and one basil leaf onto each cocktail skewer. Repeat until all ingredients are used.
  6. Arrange the skewers on a serving platter.
  7. Lightly sprinkle salt and freshly ground black pepper over the skewers. Drizzle with balsamic glaze and optionally a few drops of extra virgin olive oil.
  8. Serve immediately or cover and refrigerate for up to 2 hours before serving.

Notes

If balsamic glaze is too runny, simmer longer; if too thick, add a splash of water. Pat mozzarella and tomatoes dry to avoid soggy skewers. Can substitute mozzarella with vegan cheese or marinated tofu for dairy-free option. Assemble skewers a few hours ahead but add glaze just before serving to keep fresh.
