A family favorite recipe featuring tender chicken pieces coated in a sticky, sweet, and tangy bourbon sauce. Perfect for weeknight dinners or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/4 cup bourbon (or apple juice for non-alcoholic version)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cut the chicken thighs into bite-sized pieces and set aside.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together bourbon, soy sauce, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Set aside.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken pieces and cook for 6-8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through.
  4. Reduce the heat to medium-low. Pour the sauce over the chicken, stirring to coat. Add cornstarch mixed with water and stir until the sauce thickens and clings to the chicken (about 3-4 minutes).
  5. Remove from heat and garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds if desired.

Notes

[‘Don’t skip the cornstarch; it’s essential for achieving a thick, glossy sauce.’, ‘Use fresh garlic and ginger for better flavor.’, ‘Scrape up browned bits from the skillet after cooking the chicken for extra flavor.’, ‘Adjust sweetness by reducing brown sugar or adding more vinegar.’, ‘Avoid overcrowding the pan to ensure the chicken browns properly.’]
