A quick and easy honey glazed spiral ham with a pineapple brown sugar glaze, perfect for holiday dinners. This recipe balances sweet and savory flavors with a tender, juicy ham.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 to 10-pound pre-cooked spiral sliced ham (preferably bone-in)
  • ½ cup (120 ml) honey (raw or wildflower preferred)
  • ¾ cup (150 g) packed dark brown sugar
  • 1 cup (240 ml) drained crushed pineapple (canned or fresh)
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) apple cider vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon (1 g) ground cinnamon (optional)
  • A pinch (less than ¼ teaspoon) ground cloves (optional)
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • ¼ cup (60 ml) water (to thin glaze if needed)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C). Line your roasting pan with foil for easier cleanup.
  2. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine honey, brown sugar, crushed pineapple, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, cinnamon, and ground cloves.
  3. Simmer the glaze for 5-7 minutes, stirring often, until sugar dissolves and mixture thickens slightly. Add up to ¼ cup water if glaze becomes too thick.
  4. Place the spiral ham cut side down on the roasting rack in your pan. Remove any plastic disk covering the bone.
  5. Brush a generous layer of the glaze over the ham, making sure to get between the slices.
  6. Cover the ham loosely with aluminum foil to keep it moist during initial cooking.
  7. Roast for 1 to 1½ hours, basting every 20 minutes with more glaze.
  8. Remove the foil during the last 15 minutes to let the glaze set and form a sticky crust. Tent with foil if browning too fast.
  9. Check internal temperature with a meat thermometer; it should read 140°F (60°C) when done.
  10. Let the ham rest for 10-15 minutes before serving to allow juices to redistribute and glaze to set.

Notes

Use bone-in spiral ham for extra flavor and juiciness. Simmer glaze gently to avoid burning sugars. Baste every 20 minutes for best caramelization. Let ham rest before slicing. For gluten-free, verify mustard and vinegar brands. Variations include adding crushed red pepper flakes for spice or swapping pineapple for apricot preserves.
