Ingredients

Scale
  • 46 plain or everything bagels, sliced
  • 8 ounces (225 grams) thinly sliced high-quality smoked salmon
  • 8 ounces (225 grams) softened full-fat cream cheese
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill, finely chopped
  • 1 lemon, zested and juiced
  • 2 tablespoons capers, drained
  • 1 small red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium cucumber, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved (optional)
  • Fresh ground black pepper, to taste
  • Optional extras: thinly sliced radishes, avocado slices, everything bagel seasoning or za’atar

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cream Cheese Spread (10 minutes): In a medium bowl, combine softened cream cheese, chopped fresh dill, lemon zest, and about 1 tablespoon lemon juice. Mix until smooth and creamy. Adjust lemon juice or dill as desired. Set aside.
  2. Slice the Bagels (5 minutes): Cut bagels in half horizontally. Toast lightly if desired. Arrange on serving board or platter with cut sides up.
  3. Prepare the Veggies (10 minutes): Thinly slice red onion and cucumber. Halve cherry tomatoes. Slice radishes or avocado if using. Keep in small bowls or arranged piles for easy grabbing.
  4. Assemble the Board (5–10 minutes): Spread cream cheese mixture generously over each bagel half. Layer smoked salmon slices folded or rolled on top. Arrange veggies attractively around bagels. Sprinkle capers evenly over the board.
  5. Final Touches (2 minutes): Sprinkle freshly ground black pepper and optionally everything bagel seasoning or za’atar over the top. Add lemon wedges on the side.

Notes

Use room temperature cream cheese for easier spreading. Toast bagels lightly for slight crunch but avoid drying them out. Prepare components ahead but assemble just before serving to keep bagels fresh. For dairy-free, use plant-based cream cheese and smoked carrot or beet lox. Store leftovers in airtight containers and consume within 2 days.
