Ingredients

Scale
  • 68 medium-sized apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of nutmeg
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • Vanilla ice cream (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C).
  2. Peel, core, and slice 6-8 medium-sized apples into thin, even slices. Place them in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Add 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, and a pinch of nutmeg to the apples. Toss until evenly coated.
  4. Pour the apple mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine 1 cup rolled oats, 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup brown sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Add 1/2 cup cold, cubed butter and use a pastry cutter or fork to blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  6. Sprinkle the oat mixture evenly over the apples, covering them completely.
  7. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling.
  8. Let the apple crisp cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.
  9. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.

Notes

Use firm, tart apples like Granny Smith for the best texture. Keep butter cold for a flaky topping. Adjust cinnamon or sugar to taste.
