Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 regular-sized beef or turkey hot dogs
  • 8 soft hot dog buns, lightly toasted
  • Firecracker Seasoning Blend:
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon brown sugar
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Patriotic Toppings:
  • 1 cup red cabbage, finely shredded
  • ½ cup blue corn tortilla chips, crushed
  • ½ cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • Fresh chives or green onions, chopped
  • Optional: sliced jalapeños
  • Condiments:
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon honey

Instructions

  1. Mix the Firecracker Seasoning: In a small bowl, combine smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, brown sugar, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to blend all the spices evenly.
  2. Prep the Toppings: Finely shred the red cabbage and chop the chives or green onions. Crush the blue corn tortilla chips in a zip-top bag or bowl using your hands or a rolling pin. In a separate small bowl, mix the sour cream or Greek yogurt with honey and Dijon mustard until smooth.
  3. Season the Hot Dogs: Lightly pat the hot dogs dry with paper towels. Sprinkle the firecracker seasoning evenly over each hot dog, gently pressing so the spices stick.
  4. Grill the Hot Dogs: Place the seasoned hot dogs on a preheated grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Cook for about 5 to 7 minutes, turning occasionally, until the hot dogs are nicely charred and heated through.
  5. Toast the Buns: While the hot dogs cook, lightly toast the buns on the grill or in a toaster oven until golden and warm.
  6. Assemble the Firecracker Hot Dogs: Place each hot dog inside a toasted bun. Spoon a generous dollop of the creamy sauce over the hot dog. Then pile on shredded red cabbage, crushed blue corn chips, and sprinkle with fresh chives or green onions. Add sliced jalapeños if desired.
  7. Serve Immediately: Enjoy fresh off the grill while the toppings are crisp and flavors vibrant.

Notes

Adjust cayenne pepper and jalapeños to control heat level. Use gluten-free buns or lettuce wraps for gluten-free or low-carb options. Crush blue corn chips just before assembly to maintain crunch. Toast buns well to avoid sogginess. Store toppings and sauce separately if prepping ahead.
