A rich and silky chocolate fondue perfect for romantic evenings or intimate occasions, made with semi-sweet and dark chocolate, heavy cream, and a hint of vanilla.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips or chopped bar
  • 2 oz dark chocolate (70% cocoa)
  • Β½ cup heavy cream, warmed (or coconut cream for dairy-free option)
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • A pinch of fine sea salt
  • Dippers (choose your favorites): fresh strawberries, banana slices, marshmallows, chunks of pound cake or angel food cake, apple slices, shortbread cookies

Instructions

  1. Prep your dippers: Wash and dry fresh fruit like strawberries and apple slices. Slice bananas and cake into bite-sized pieces. Arrange all dippers on a serving plate for easy access.
  2. Warm the cream: Pour Β½ cup (120 ml) heavy cream into a small saucepan and gently heat over medium-low heat until steaming but not boiling.
  3. Combine chocolate and cream: Remove the cream from heat and add 6 oz semi-sweet chocolate and 2 oz dark chocolate to the warm cream. Let it sit for about 1 minute to soften the chocolate.
  4. Stir to melt: Using a wooden spoon or silicone spatula, gently stir the mixture in slow circles until completely smooth and glossy. If lumps appear, place the pan back on low heat and stir continuously until smooth.
  5. Add flavor: Stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and a pinch of salt to balance sweetness. Taste and adjust if desired.
  6. Transfer to fondue pot: Pour the warm chocolate into your fondue pot or heatproof bowl. If using a fondue pot with a warmer, light the candle or turn on the heat source to keep the chocolate flowing.
  7. Serve immediately: Bring the fondue to the table with your plate of dippers and skewers. Stir occasionally to keep the chocolate smooth. Serve within 30 minutes for best texture.

Notes

Use good-quality chocolate for best melting and flavor. Warm cream gently to avoid seizing chocolate. Stir chocolate frequently when warming or serving to maintain smooth texture. For dairy-free, substitute heavy cream with full-fat coconut cream and use dairy-free chocolate chips. Rewarm gently if chocolate thickens.
